Minimum wage
The mandatory monthly gross minimum wage (minimálbér) and the guaranteed wage minimum for skilled roles are set by government decree. The amounts shown are those in force for 2026.

Hungary sets two statutory wage floors, both monthly gross figures fixed by government decree for the whole year. The minimum wage (minimálbér) is the floor for work that needs no particular qualification; the guaranteed wage minimum (garantált bérminimum) is a higher floor for roles that require at least secondary vocational qualification. The 2026 amounts below are the ones in force.
| Floor | Monthly gross | Hourly gross |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum wage (minimálbér) | 322 800 Ft | 1856 Ft |
| Guaranteed wage minimum (garantált bérminimum) | 373 200 Ft | — |
Set once a year, by decree
Both floors are set for the calendar year by a government decree that takes effect on 1 January and is published in the official gazette (Magyar Közlöny). For 2026 the governing instrument is 426/2025. (XII. 23.) Korm. rendelet. Each year’s decree replaces the previous year’s, so the figure moves in a single step at the turn of the year rather than drifting; the 2026 amounts are higher than the 2025 ones they replaced. Because the amount is a decree value rather than an indexed formula, the only reliable source for a given year is that year’s decree.
What the minimum wage leaves in hand
A wage floor is a gross figure, so it is not what a minimum-wage worker takes home. Run the minimálbér through the same gross-to-net path the calculator uses – the TB contribution and the flat income tax, with no allowances – and the take-home net comes to about 214 662 Ft. Seen from the other side, the same job costs the employer around 364 764 Ft a month once the employer’s szocho is added on top of the gross. Both figures are the calculator’s own output; a worker with children or under 25 would keep more, because the allowances lower the income tax.
