Pension FAQ
Short answers to the questions asked most often about the Hungarian old-age pension, drawn from Tny. and its implementing decree.
When can I retire?
Your date of birth decides it, under the Tny. § 18(1) table. A few bands state the exact threshold in days rather than months. The full table is on the retirement age page.
How many years of service do I need?
Any old-age pension needs at least 15 years of service. Women with at least 40 years of qualifying time can claim regardless of the retirement-age table.
Is there an early-retirement route?
How is the amount worked out?
As a monthly average-earnings base (running from 1 January 1988) multiplied by a percentage that depends on years of service — 43% at 15 years, up to 100% at 50 years. In full on the calculation page.
What is the minimum pension?
The minimum full old-age pension is 28 500 Ft a month.
Does working past the retirement age pay off?
Yes: every started 30 further days of unclaimed work raises the eventual pension by 0,5%, automatically.
